Ahead of his battle with former unified lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, the current undisputed lightweight champion of the world Devin Haney branded ‘Loma’ vs. Haney as “the real fight”. With this declaration, thus, Haney simultaneously offered a reality check to Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. While Haney and Lomachenko are preparing for the 20th of May, Garcia vs. Davis is only a week away from staging itself on the 22nd of April.
As per Haney, the fight on the 20th of May will witness the collision between the no.1 and no. 2 fighter in present-day boxing. Undoubtedly, the match will see the establishment of the best lightweight fighter in contemporary boxing. With expectations pouring in, on Pitch Boxing Devin Haney declared what the bout actually meant to the boxing followers and well-wishers of the sport.

Devin Haney is all about becoming the divisional king
Following his victory over George Kambosos Jr. in June of last year, Haney became the undisputed lightweight champion of the world. He fought the Australian in a rematch and handed him the same fate he had suffered the first time against Haney. On the other hand, Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medalist lost his throne to Teofimo Lopez when the duo met in 2020. However, Lomachenko is still arguably one of the best pound-for-pound fighters boxing has ever seen. In fact, in Teofimo’s opinion, nobody beats Lomachenko. Thus, taking all these factors into strict consideration, ahead of Garcia vs. Davis, Haney declared his upcoming match with ‘Loma’ as “the real fight“.

“The boxing followers and boing writers know this is the real fight. This is the no. 1 and no. 2 fighting each other to be the king of the division,” in a bold statement said Haney. While Garcia vs. Davis will not witness competition for a title, both Lomachenko and Devin Haney will fight with four prestigious lightweight titles on the line. In this sense, do you agree with Haney’s declaration?
