Olympic Boxing is in need of drastic support. Many boxing federations around the world, such as the USA Boxing and European federations, are forming their own organizations which will hopefully work as an alternative. The International Olympic Community (IOC) is planning to discard the sport of boxing from their event if the International Boxing Association (IBA) is the controlling factor in the sport. IOC doesn’t want to take any more risks with the IBA, as there have been constant controversies since the involvement of this association. The number of allegations involving match-fixing has skyrocketed.
IOC either wants to replace the IBA or completely discard the long-time-played sport of boxing altogether. So different federations are coming together to form an organization that will dedicatedly follow all the guidelines of the IOC, and so that they can save Olympic boxing from getting canceled. If that happens, it’ll definitely be a shock to the world of boxing.
Many talented boxers have competed in Olympic boxing and established themselves as pioneers of the sport. Boxers like Oleksandr Usyk, Roy Jones Jr., Gennadiy Golovkin, etc are all examples of those who had competed in the Olympics and then turned into professional boxers. And a few years ago, even the Pro boxers were allowed to compete in the Olympic Boxing. Nevertheless, fans are hopeful now after the news of the Federations coming together to form the ‘World Boxing’ organization.
