In the general run, ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will meet Jermell Charlo to defend his undisputed Super Middleweight titles on September 30. As much as the news may sound exciting to many, Tim Tszyu doesn’t appear so. After all, Charlo was supposed to face him, a mandatory challenger.

He retained the WBO Interim Light Middleweight title with a forceful victory over Carlos Ocampo on June 18. Declaring the win, a statement, Tim Tszyu announced a sign of things to come. His long wait to claim a world title seemed imminent, with all routes to Jermell Charlo, the division’s undisputed champion, now clear. Incidentally, the two had a clash scheduled early this year on January 28. But the American’s injury resulted in a postponement. Though a directive mandated a title defense from Tszyu before September 30.

According to an article published on ESPN, Charlo challenges Alvarez at 168 lbs. Hence no surprises in guessing the bewildering news found Tim Tszyu visibly perturbed. Taking to Instagram Stories, he mentioned, “Canelo ducks Benavidez. Charlo ducks Tszyu….” As many fans might know, a similar jostling unfolds in the 168 lbs. WBC Interim Super Middleweight champion David Benavidez has been clamoring for a fight with ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a long time.

When he defended his title from Caleb Plant in March, ‘The Mexican Monster’ sounded the bugle. Making his intentions clear, he called out Alvarez. But the latter, aside from his reasoning of not wanting to fight a fellow Mexican, followed a fixed plan that saw him defend his undisputed titles from John Ryder.
