Previously, the Cinco de Mayo weekend has given us great boxing fights, and now to follow the tradition, Canelo Alvarez scheduled his bout to align with the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. This is Alvarez’s homecoming fight, as he’ll be getting in the ring in his homeland after twelve years. The boxer wanted to provide his fans from Guadalajara with something special. For this bout, his opponent is the Super Middleweight British boxer, John Ryder. And Alvarez would be defending all of his belts in the Super Middleweight division.
The Mexican fans are pretty excited about the fight, as both fighters just got done with their weigh-ins this Friday. Canelo Alvarez weighed 166.6 lb and John Ryder made 167.9 lb, which sits right under the weight limit. The excitement of the fans was portrayed in a Tweet made by one of the users, Greedy Belly. In that video, it could be seen what lengths people are ready to go to not miss the Cinco de Mayo boxing fight.
The fans were ready to stand in the hot sun in front of a big screen, just so they could watch the Canelo Alvarez vs. John Ryder weigh-in live. The venue, Degollado Theatre in downtown Guadalajara was completely packed.

Many fans set up a big screen out in the open under the hot sun, so they could watch the event live. This shows the immense love and pride set in the hearts of all the people in Mexico for their hero, Canelo Alvarez. Legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez was also present in the audience and also provided his insights for the event as an analyst.

Meanwhile, one user stated that it is natural given the fight is taking place in Canelo’s hometown. is Mexican and that’s the reason he could do it. The user further stated that even “Mikey Garcia coulda did this”.
