Teofimo Lopez capitulated to his very first pro-boxing loss against George Kambosos Jr. With this, Lopez lost his lightweight titles, which he bagged after beating the lightweight GOAT, Vasyl Lomachenko. Post this loss, many rivals of Teofimo Lopez went after him. However, to everyone’s surprise, ‘Loma’ came in for his support, leaving everyone in awe.
In an interview, the ex-lightweight king, Lomachenko, was asked if he was happy after Lopez’s loss.
To which, the Ukrainian boxer reverted, “No, no. It’s not a correct question. I’m not happy because I understand what he’s feeling. Because I was in the same situation when I lose.”

Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez locked horns in 2020 for the WBO, WBA, and IBF lightweight titles. In this fight, the 33-year-old surprisingly let Lopez dictate the pace of the fight in the first half. But he grabbed pace in the latter half, thus putting Lopez on a back foot.
The exchange between the two men turned out to be vibrant, and it was hard to predict who among the two actually won. However, the judges ruled this fight in favor of ‘The Takeover’, awarding him with a UD win.

Lomachenko was fairly unimpressed with this decision, and since that loss, he remained eager for a rematch with Lopez. On the contrary, Lopez and his team weren’t quite assertive about this rematch, after he ended up losing his titles to Kambosos Jr.
Is there a slight possibility of Vasyl Lomachenko vs Teofimo Lopez 2?
Prior to his fight with Kambosos Jr., Lopez, and his team remained open about moving up to the 140-pound division, and challenging the undisputed champ, Josh Taylor.

Citing that, it’s pretty clear that a rematch between Lomachenko and Lopez might never come to life again, at least at the 130-pound landscape.
For now, Lomachenko will only have one aim in his mind, i.e. to conquer his long-lost belts, and sit at the pinnacle.
