Vasyl Lomachenko, without a doubt, is one of the greatest fighters to ever take up the ring space. The Ukrainian fighter, with his sublime fight IQ and skills, is on his way to becoming a true legend of the sport. Also, his achievements are bound to cement his legacy in the coming time. But more than his pro-record, Lomachenko is widely known for his amateur boxing stint.

Lomachenko began his amateur run, way back in 2004. Putting on some cracking performances, ‘Loma’ began captivating sound attention from his supporters. However, he faced a setback while things were just elevating. In 2007, Lomachenko met Albert Selimov in a four-round fight.

Here, Selimov pulled off an upset by beating the favorite Lomachenko by points.

Selimov was an established fighter back then, but he barely stood a chance over the highly skilled Lomachenko.

The fight began well for both the men and right from the first bell; they looked to hammer each other and finish the fight. The duo exchanged many punches till the end and the fight went the distance. Lomachenko too landed some exuberant shots on his rival, but he also received some slick counterattacks.

As a result, till the end, it was tough to call which way the result would go. But, the judges gave this fight to Selimov, leaving the Ukrainian boxer heartbroken.

The results of this fight left many Lomachenko fans disheartened as they felt ‘Loma’ did enough to win. But post this fight, Lomachenko made his mind to never end up on the losing side again, and he abided by this thought.

That said, he stuck to his purpose and eventually got the results by beating Selimov by points in this 4-round scuffle. Lomachenko avenged his loss in the best fashion, and probably at the best stage.

The southpaw boxer is great in every way and he still shows enough abilities to trace a decorated pro-boxing stint.
