Often, the thrill of putting a smile on the face of loved ones-a frenzy of delight-sends a few, especially those with the money, on overdrive to buy the best gifts. The best ones that money can buy. It’s enough to stop the ordinary, mere mortals in their tracks. Perhaps that’s what might have happened when a media company shared details of the kind of gifts a few rich and mighty took home in recent memory.

Sunday Roast shared a post on its Facebook page early today. It was about some of the most expensive gifts and the biggest names in movies and sports, lavishing them on each other. Their message read, “How much money would you be willing to spend on gifts if you had millions? For most of us, that question is purely hypothetical. But people like Angelina Jolie, Mike Tyson, or Justin Bieber are not like us, which is why they get to make outrageous presents (and sometimes regret [it] afterward).

From Mike Tyson to David Beckham and the list goes on

The four-minute-long footage featured Hollywood icons Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Though they were married from 2014 to 2019, their relationship reportedly began much earlier. The video shares that in 2011 when Pitt turned forty eight, Jolie presented a ‘northern California waterfall’ as she remembered his architectural liking. The effort reduced her wallet by $1.6 million. However, she wasn’t done. She purchased him another gift that year, a helicopter with a similar price to the waterfall. Let’s look at other celebrities on the list who went about expressing their love.

David Beckham bought a vineyard for his wife, Victoria Beckham. He shelled out a seven-figure amount, but the precise amount remains unclear (not specified). Additionally, he gave her a platinum self-pleasuring adult toy with a base adorned with ten-carat diamonds, costing about $1.8 million.

In 2010, rapper Jay-Z gifted a private island, about 12.5 acres in size, to Beyonce. He bought it for $20 million; the year before, he gave her a $24,000 platinum-covered cellphone. Next, it was the wife’s turn. Beyonce gave her husband a Bombardier Challenger 850 jet with multifunctional amenities in 2011, bought for a whopping $40 million. Then there was another wife. Comedy sitcom ‘Friends’ star Courtney Cox bought an antique Carousel Horse for about $45,000 in a last-ditch effort to save her marriage with actor David Arquette.

The ‘Baddest’ cannot be left out when discussing the bold and the famous. Boxing’s own Mike Tyson presented a 24-carat gold bathtub valued at $2.2 million to his first wife, Robin Givens, in 1988. But unfortunately, the couple went their separate ways the following year. ‘Queen of Camp,’ singer Katy Parry, bought her then-husband, comedian Russell Brand, a ticket for space travel. Reportedly, she had to dispense with $160,000 for the purchase.

Hollywood rules

The remaining examples included Canadian singer Justin Bieber purchasing an engagement ring weighing six to ten carats for then-Hailey Baldwin for $500,000. Another Hollywood icon, George Clooney, reportedly handed over a million dollars each, stuffed in suitcases, to his fourteen friends for helping him during his struggling times. Likewise, actor Adam Sandler presented four Maseratis, each costing $200,000, to his co-stars, including David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider.

The footage continued in Hollywood. The second last mention was of Tom Cruise, who gave then-wife Katie Holmes a $20 million Gulfstream jet. Finally, the list closed with the good fortunes of socialite Kylie Jenner. First, from rapper Tyga in 2015, she received a gemstone ring worth $33,000, followed by a $315,000 white Lamborghini in 2016. By 2017, she was in a relationship with another rapper. Travis Scott reportedly gifted her a $1.4 million vintage Rolls-Royce.

A gift is one of the most visible ways of expressing love. A thought or emotion lends a helping hand. Together with a gift, they form a story that endears for a long time. It’s sheer pleasure to watch the joy and happiness of a loved one when they receive something.
