On August 26th, the realm of boxing will see one of the most promising fighters in the heavyweight division. Ukrainian fighter Oleksandr Usyk will enter the ring against Daniel Dubois to defend the three titles he holds in the division. The fight that is slated to happen in Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, is generating buzz like never before. However, the fight is important for multiple reasons, one of which is the opponent Usyk has received.
There were anticipations among boxing fans that there would be a historic unification matchup this year between Tyson Fury and Usyk in the cruiserweight division, but that did not come to fruition. The negotiations between the two clans reached a deadlock when Fury did not agree to the purse shares. Coming back to Usyk, the matchup with his opponent is one he definitely needs to take as he recovers from the debacle that overtook him in the wake of the fight with Fury. Just a few days ahead of the big night, Dubois has spoken out about his plans for the 26th.

What is Daniel Dubois accounting for as he preps for his big fight?
Dubois currently holds the WBA (Regular) heavyweight belt and is the mandatory challenger, while Usyk is the WBA champion. However, it is not going to be an easy fight for the British boxer, as ‘The Cat’ Usyk has his size and experience working in his favor. But this is not deterring the two from giving it their all when they come face-to-face. Dubois has taken all the measures he can in order to gauge the way his opponent functions. The fighter has gone to all lengths in his training for the big night, as it holds massive stakes for him. He needs to excel, and if he does not win, he needs to at least put forth a strong defense against Usyk.
In a conversation with iFL TV, the heavyweight boxer spoke about doing his research on Oleksandr. The research includes watching his old fights and everything else. He said, “We’ve all looked at him, and it’s just now getting in there. Landing them shots on him. Letting them know, you know? Put on him; he’s a cruiserweight. And just land on that little Cruiserweight head.”
Another Hurdle for Fury vs. Usyk
As mentioned earlier, the world awaited the ultimate unification of titles in the heavyweight division. This would mean that Oleksandr Usyk would have to fight Tyson Fury as the two brought their titles to the ring. However, with the matchup collapsing and the fighters finding their new opponents, the fight seemed distant but still plausible. However, now the idea seems even harder to bring to fruition. The popular promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that the IBF has asked for the winner of Usyk vs. Dubois to fight Filip Hrgovic.

This development came to light as Filip rose to victory against undefeated Demsey McKean in the twelfth round. The promoter said, “He needed to get that fight; he needed to be active, and also the IBF confirmed that, after the Usyk-Dubois fight, they will call the immediate mandatory now for Filip Hrgovic. So he will fight the winner of that next.”
But this is not where the story of Usyk and Fury ends. If the IBF asks Filip to fight the winner of the matchup on the 26th of August, Fury too will soon be given a mandatory fight by the WBC.
