In 2019, the then 21-year-old Jimmy wanted to have a video with the most likes on YouTube. But things unexpectedly went in his favor and he officially became more liked than PewDiePie, which he later wanted to correct.

MrBeast officially had the most liked non-music video

When in 2018, PewDiePie made his “YouTube Rewind 2018, but it’s actually good” video, it became the most liked non-music video on the streaming platform. In 2019, it had almost 8 million likes and 56 million views.

After which MrBeast got inspired by PewDiePie and made a video titled “Make This Video The Most Liked Video On YouTube”, which was actually an egg Olympics based on an Instagram post from the same year.

During the intro of the video, he said, “Our goal is to make this the second most liked non-music video on YouTube. PewDiePie currently has the most liked non-music video on YouTube and we don’t want to steal that title from our king. That would be treason. So our goal is to be the second most liked non-music video on YouTube, which means we need 4.6 million likes.”

Notably, the video became more liked than the PewDiePie video and was also the #1 non-music video to hit that number. The video officially had 8.1 million likes when MrBeast chose to turn the tables. In a post after that, he said, “Go switch your like on my video to a dislike, so PewDiePie can reclaim the title of the most liked non-music video. I SPECIFICALLY SAID I WANTED TO BE #2 IN THE VIDEO”. 

What is an Egg Olympics?

In 2019, an anonymous Instagram account by the name world_recordd_egg posted an image of an egg with a caption saying, Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”

Later, the image has amassed more than 56 million likes on Instagram and also became one of the most retweeted posts on Twitter. Which inspired MrBeast to make a video on egg Olympics where his friends participated in seven different games to win a cash prize of $10,000 USD.

Notably, today MrBeast’s video official has 103,049,177+ views and 20 million likes, whereas PewDiePie’s video has 85,464,323+ views and 9.5 million likes.
