On October 9, 2021, the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada played host to the third fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. Ultimately, ‘The Gypsy King’ prevailed with a knockout in the 11th round to retain his WBC heavyweight championship. Following his victory, many congratulated him for his success, which included reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Earlier this year, Fury directed some harsh words towards Hamilton, which didn’t sit well with the 36-year-old. Despite that turbulent period, Hamilton congratulated his fellow Briton for his hard-fought win over Wilder. He did so by sharing a post of Fury announcing his victory on his Instagram profile.

He wrote, “You can’t deny the Fury. He’s worked through all the lows to remain on top. No matter what he’s said about me, I have huge respect for the work and commitment and sacrifice it takes to be number 1. Congrats champ, blessings to you and your family. Enjoy this time, you’ve earned it.”

While Fury enjoyed immense success this past weekend, Hamilton didn’t quite share the same fate. Despite a grid penalty sending him to P11 on the starting grid for the Turkish Grand Prix, Hamilton quickly made his way up to third place.
However, he dropped to fifth place in the final laps of the race. This was after Mercedes made the call to put Hamilton on a fresh set of intermediate tires on Lap 51 after noticing a drop in his pace. While a P5 finish disappointed Hamilton, Max Verstappen‘s second-place finish in Istanbul added to his misery.

This gave the Dutchman a six-point lead over the reigning world champion with six races to go. Can the Briton reclaim his championship lead once again in Austin, Texas on October 24? Or will Verstappen extend his lead at this crucial juncture?
