Red Bull’s new recruitment, Sergio Perez, had an unforgettable opening race in Bahrain last weekend. Misery struck the Mexican as early as the warm-up lap when his Red Bull shut down by itself, leaving him stranded just metres away from the final corner.
However, Perez managed to fire his car up in time and guided it into the pits to start the race from the pit lane. And of course, it was yet another epic comeback from Perez, as he finished the race in an astonishing P5. His race resembled a lot like his recent victory with Racing Point at this very circuit last season.
But ever since the Bahrain GP, fans have been left blindsided regarding what went wrong in Perez’s car. Well, worry no more, as Dr. Helmut Marko, has finally revealed the cause of the car’s unexpected shutdown.

What did the Red Bull advisor say?
As reported by PlanetF1, the Austrian opened up that the team had to switch the battery in Perez’s car at the very last minute, which may have caused the car to blackout.
“The problems we had were mainly related to the software,” Marko said. “Perez’s battery was changed at the last minute. That is probably the reason why he suddenly lost power.”

Perez lined up P11 on the grid for the race, after gambling with the medium tires during Q2 in qualifying. And it further got worse, when his car lost power and he had to start from the pit lane.
However, he managed to do substantially long stints and set himself up for a late charge on the Ferrari and McLaren cars. Unfortunately, in the end, he could only manage P5, as Lando Norris, was a bit too far for the Mexican to catch up.
Sergio Perez was sensational: Marko
The 77-year-old was awestruck by Perez’s calmness under pressure during the warm-up lap. Marko revealed that the Mexican showed no signs of panic as he followed the restart procedure to fire up his car on time.
“He was sensational. He took off his steering wheel and carried out all the emergency scenarios coolly. Suddenly the power came back,” he said.

“But there was no problem with the parts. All of those things can be fixed with the proper adaptations, I think.”
Perez suffered a lot of obstacles over his first outing with Red Bull. However, not all race weekends will pan out the way they did in Bahrain.
