Charles Leclerc Downplays the Chances of Becoming Ferrari’s Youngest World Champion in F1 History

Ferrari is the most successful team in Formula 1 history. From the legendary Niki Lauda to the seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, they have produced champion drivers. However, the last driver to win the Championship in a Ferrari car is Kimi Raikkonen back in 2007. A 15-year drought amid Mercedes’ dominance hurt the Prancing Horses. And now their hopes lie on the young Charles Leclerc.

Ferrari has started the 2022 season in a pulsating fashion. The first two races have already seen 4 podiums and a race win in Bahrain. As a result, the team is the early season favorites to win the Championship. Team Principal Mattia Binotto has backed Charles Leclerc to win a championship when the young Monegasque signed with Ferrari.

Meanwhile, Leclerc has also given his thoughts after a promising start to the season as Ferrari fans hope that he will bring the title home.

Can Leclerc win the Championship?

Charles Leclerc and Ferrari have started the season with a bang after an eventful race in Bahrain. He claimed the victory comfortably and continued his fine form in Saudi Arabia as he finished second. Hence, the hopes of the Ferrari driver winning the title have been on the rise among the fans. However, the former Alfa Romeo driver is cautious.

Speaking on whether he can be Ferrari‘s youngest World Champion, Charles said, “I have no idea if it will be enough to win the World Championship. It’s still very early in the season. Let’s just say it’s a very good start to the season.”

Leclerc is confident in the car’s potential but still feels that he can improve. He added, “I think development will be key. And we as drivers have to help the team in the best possible way to remain competitive.”

The Ferrari driver will hope to continue his solid start to the season. However, Max Verstappen has an able competitor and a current World Champion. Not to mention, seven-time World champion, Lewis Hamilton has endured a tough start, but everyone believes he will not give up in his fight to win an unprecedented 8th Championship.
