There’s this sort of enmity between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton that stems way back to 2007. Back then, Hamilton was just a rookie, and Alonso, a two-time Formula 1 world champion. That year, Hamilton had the measure of the Spaniard. And 16 years later, the 38-year-old Brit is a 7x champion, and Alonso is still stuck at two. Naturally, the man from Oviedo looks up to Hamilton with a mix of envy and spite.

This has led to many showdowns between the duo, both on and off track. But it’s the digs and shenanigans being pulled off the track, which is a specialty for the current Aston Martin talisman. And true to his form, he delivered another jab in Hamilton’s way now that fortune for the two have seemingly reversed.

Fernando Alonso taints Lewis Hamilton’s championship-winning legacy

As things stand in the 2023 season, Hamilton is a country mile away from his 8th world title. Whereas, Alonso, with the Silverstone-based Aston Martin, is soon building to a point where he can challenge the best of the best on the grid.

While speaking to MARCA, Alonso took the opportunity to rub some salt into Hamilton’s wounds. He began, “He’s been lucky, or lucky enough, to be in a dominant car for many years and when that happens…,” before he quickly changed trajectory. When it comes to 7x champions, it would appear that Alonso has a particular spot for them in his heart!

Alonso sets realistic expectations for Aston Martin’s adventure

2023 has been a dream for Fernando Alonso. It really is vindication when, after over a decade of failed career choices, the one deemed to have been doomed from the very beginning comes good. However, does Alonso think a 3rd championship is also in sight?

He told Formula1.com, “Always I believe it’s possible, that’s why I keep racing. Obviously, you know the challenge is big, you know that you need to overcome some difficulties, some top teams that are now on top of the sport, but I race every day and I train every day thinking that the third title is possible.”
