Ferrari and Tifosi thought they really had something last season, and to be fair, they did. Then, as the season ended on an extremely terrible note, Ferrari fired Mattia Binotto from his role as the team principal. They tasked Frederic Vasseur with bringing back the glory. Needless to say, we are all seeing how it is panning out.

This again brings up the debate that Ferrari has bigger problems than having a good team principal. The team apparently needs reforms to the core, with many thus calling Binotto the scapegoat for over a decade of failure. The Italian faced criticism from all quarters. Now, however, he has found support from a rather peculiar and tainted Formula 1 personality, Flavio Briatore.

The former Renault team principal was quoted by Corriere defending the former Ferrari boss, saying, “Binotto had done a good job. Last year Ferrari was competitive. But then he had concentrated too many responsibilities on himself, and this creates problems,” he said while addressing the question of whether he’d have fired the Italian engineer.

In a separate question, he raised his fingers at Ferrari, questioning their woes, saying, “It often happens: around Maranello there are people who speak during the winter when an in-depth analysis should be made on why you have not won for more than 15 years. We need weight characters in the team, now they are not there.”

Troubles at Ferrari aren’t new, but what hurts the Tifosi most is the team’s inability to develop the car despite a winter break and testing. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are left smashing their heads into the steering wheel as the communication problems persist among the rest.

Ferrari should give time to Frederic Vasseur

Taking over a tumultuous Ferrari team, Frederic Vasseur arrived with a lot of promise. He reported a second gain on the Ferrari. However, this was only a false dawn. The team has failed to bag any podiums in the first two rounds. They appear to be out of contention for the championship, and the boss is under severe pressure already.

But despite that, Flavio believes the team should give him time. He said, “I know him well enough: he is a hard worker, he is a serious one. He has just arrived and is training a team with the players he has found. Let’s give it time.”
