There has been a lot of talk surrounding the number one status in Red Bull since the win of Sergio Perez in Monaco. With his win in the principality, the Mexican driver has firmly announced his plans for the world championship against his teammate Max Verstappen.
But this chatter does not really concern or deter the world champion from his objective. He mentioned he does not really want to hear from the team that he is their number one driver.

“I don’t worry about anything and certainly not about what other people think, write or think. There is nothing wrong and I am always keen to get the best out of it. I don’t need to hear from the team that I’m the number one driver,” said Verstappen, in conversation with telegraaf.nl. (quotes translated using Google)

The world champion finished the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend in P3 behind his teammate, and Carlos Sainz. He did not really look on par with Checo throughout the weekend. But this did not stop Max’s father, Jos Verstappen, to give out his opinion on Red Bull’s strategy being more favorable to the Mexican driver.

The Dutch driver commented his father may not be the most objective person while responding to his comments. He is correct in assessing the fact that his father will always take his side and may not see the complete picture.
“As my father wrote, he is not completely objective. He just wants to see me win. And in the end, I also have a very good chance in the championship. It’s his opinion. I also told my father that the events on Sunday were a result of Saturday when that red flag ruined my qualifying,” said Verstappen.
