Lewis Hamilton Urges Fans to ‘Do a Little Rain Dance’ After Dismal Qualifying

With a P7 finish in qualifying, Lewis Hamilton’s weekend in Monaco seems like one to forget. He looked off pace across all sessions, and despite putting in a lap of 1:11.095 in Q3, he was seven-tenths behind pole position.
In fact, he finished well behind his teammate, Valtteri Bottas, who took P3 after a blistering lap. Although Mercedes have a lead in the championship, they look vulnerable in Monaco, which gives Red Bull a huge opportunity to close the gap in the title fight. The Briton summed up qualifying and made a cheeky request to his fans post the session.

No driver can win every race on the F1 calendar. Although his dominance in the sport is unmatched, Hamilton isn’t immune to a terrible qualifying session. While his luck has been poor before, Ferrari and Red Bull thoroughly outpaced him this time.

Ahead of Sunday, Hamilton put out a tweet to ask his fans to do a rain dance to turn his fortunes around. The Briton said, “Tomorrow will be tough, so if you got time, do a little rain dance for me, let the heavens open.”

Although fans may find time for a “rain dance”, the weather gods seem unlikely to bless him. With very little chance of rain during the race, it seems Hamilton will need a different form of luck today.

Summing up his qualifying session, Hamilton reiterated that failure helps one to grow. Although he has three victories in Monaco, this weekend is arguably one of the Briton’s toughest in the Principality.
The 36-year-old pointed out their struggles through the weekend and their mentality as a team. He said, “Failure never feels good but it provides us with opportunities for growth. We have struggled this weekend, for many different reasons but we win and we lose together.”

With his title rival Max Verstappen starting P2, Hamilton’s challenge is enormous in Monaco. In a circuit where overtaking is difficult, he needs to make moves quickly to keep his 14-point lead on Verstappen. And with Ferrari looking quicker than ever this season, Hamilton’s chances of a podium today look bleak.
