Red Bull driver Max Verstappen could be as far as one race to win his second title in two seasons. His father, and former Formula One driver, Jos Verstappen, is, however, in no hurry. He also did not shy away from taking a dig at Red Bull.

Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix from P7 after taking a grid penalty. The grid penalty came as a result of a new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). This is not the first time this season he won from that far back behind. He took home the winning trophy at the Hungarian Grand Prix from P10 and at the Belgian Grand Prix from P14.

Commenting on Max winning races from as far as P14, he said, “All of this shows that Max’s racing car is very good”.

He also took a shot at Red Bull by saying, “If he can start from the front row for a change, everything will be easier”.

With 6 more races to go and Max riding on 11 wins, 5 of them being consecutive, he could beat two records. Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher jointly hold the record for most race wins in a season with 13. And, Vettel holds the most consecutive race wins record all by himself with 9 victories.

How do the stars need to align for Max to win the title in Singapore?

While we know that Max is as far as one race to win the World Drivers’ Championship, there are more things that need to fall into place. He must beat Charles Leclerc by 22 points, teammate Sergio Perez by 13, and George Russell by 6 points.

For all this to happen, the Dutch certainly needs to win with 25 points. On top of that, if he does not bag the fastest lap, Leclerc must finish as low as 9th, and Perez 4th or 5th (depending on whether he scores the fastest lap). In case he does score the fastest lap, Leclerc must finish as low as 8th, and Perez 4th.
