We are here at the last race of the 2022 Formula 1 championship season. Or you can call it the Sebastian Vettel weekend, as most are treating it that way, including the drivers. Ask Fernando Alonso! The Spaniard revealed they were not only looking out for Vettel during the qualifying, but he will continue to do so in the race.

Alonso revealed that he, among other drivers, were staying out of the way to not hamper Vettel’s qualifying. They, everyone other than the two Red Bulls, did a brilliant job at that as Vettel matched his best qualifying result of the season going ninth fastest. Now, during the race, both Alonso and Vettel will start alongside each other after Daniel Ricciardo’s three-place grid penalty.

Starting alongside the four-time world champion, Alonso will make sure Vettel gets away scot-free in the opening lap.

“It’s not that we tried to help him, but we all tried to have an eye on him when we saw him in the mirror when he’s coming on a fast lap or whatever because we want a smooth weekend for him,” said the soon to be Aston Martin driver, despite being his old adversary.

“Even tomorrow I think he will start ninth, I will start 10th, so I will take care of him at the start and the first lap. Let’s hope we both see the chequered flag,” Alonso promised.

This is just another example of Vettel’s impact on the rest of the grid and how highly he is regarded by his peers. He is not only a legendary driver, but a great human being as well.

If there were any doubts, let this revelation from Ricciardo prove it once more.

The Australian is driving his last race, at least for a while, as he heads into 2023 without a seat following the McLaren ousting. However, ever since the revelation, Ricciardo has revealed how he has received unexpected support from the German.

“I won’t go into detail in terms of what was said, but as a general comment, he’s picked up the phone multiple times this year and has just been a friend, shown care, checking in, as a true friend would do,” revealed Ricciardo.
