Red Bull Genius Hails Sebastian Vettel for Being the Maestro of Perfection and Setting the Bar at Red Bull

The deadly driver-team combination in the early 2010s was Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull. Besides putting together a streak of wins and championships, it also established a new performance benchmark in F1. The relentless dominance of the Adrian Newey-designed cars and Vettel’s consistency and speed made history in the sport.

Adrian Newey has been the chief architect of many championship-winning cars. Although, the Red Bull project is the one that he may have enjoyed most. The commitment he has put in since the 2000s to make RBR a multiple-world champion team is probably unparalleled.

But Newey certainly appreciates the man who has converted his technical efforts into results – Sebastian Vettel. The Red Bull Aero genius spoke on how methodical Vettel was and appreciated the same. In an interview with the Red Bull TV channel, Adrian put forth his views on how the German driver avoided mistakes and focused on perfection.

He said, “When he [Sebastian Vettel] happened to make a mistake he always wanted to understand what had happened. He wanted to know why he had done it and what he could have done better. Very rarely has he made the same mistake twice.” [translated via Google]

Many will back Newey’s comments as Vettel’s Aston Martin boss, Mike Krack, has also stated how Seb worked overtime to understand the data with his engineers. Christian Horner termed Vettel’s work ethic as fully Germanic and hailed his commitment to making RBR champions.

Vettel never really hit the best of his form since he left Red Bull. It was difficult to see Seb get just 15 wins in his 6 seasons at Ferrari, relative to his 38 at RBR and Toro Rosso.

Could Sebastian Vettel had a better trajectory after his Red Bull championships?

Every Vettel fan would have wished to see him win his 5th championship. Even Sebastian himself hoped to fulfill the dream at Ferrari. Though the manner in which his 2 title campaigns failed in 2017 and 2018, it was not to be for the German post-that.

But could we have seen a different career trajectory here for Seb? F1 drivers make career moves all the time. Could Sebastian have taken a chance on his career after his failed title attempts in 2017-18?

There were certain options for him. Mercedes was the team to beat in that period and Lewis Hamilton was enjoying a streak of success few drivers experienced. And Vettel himself spoke about how he had conversations with the late Niki Lauda about joining the Silver Arrows.

So, if these talks had become serious, it would have been a golden opportunity for the German to team up with Hamilton at Brackley. Even Mercedes would have loved to have 2 world champions on its roster. Maybe he then had a better shot at taking that 5th world title in 2019 and 2020.

The W10 and W11 were the dominant cars in those seasons and Seb would have loved to dominate one of those seasons like Hamilton did. Yes, Lewis may not have made life easy for him, but it was not going to a be Hamilton-Rosberg repeat.
