Max Verstappen‘s journey to become a multiple Formula 1 world champion began at a young age. Even as a kid, he was immersed in the Formula 1 paddock alongside his father, Jos Verstappen, who himself was an F1 driver. His passion for speed was evident early on, whether on two wheels or four, and his parents recognized his talent and began to nurture it professionally. However, unlike other kids, Max didn’t cherish his school days, admitting on multiple occasions that traditional schooling wasn’t his cup of tea. “I didn’t really like school, didn’t like sitting on a chair and looking at a board,” the Dutchman admitted in an interview with Dutch website Formule1.
Despite his dislike for the classroom, Verstappen’s determination to excel in racing became his source of motivation. He acknowledged that while some professions require formal education; he was fortunate that racing didn’t demand it. The Red Bull driver’s commitment to racing often led to creative strategies to balance his education and racing commitments. Recalling his teenage years, Verstappen once revealed a clever tactic of leaving school early on Fridays during restroom breaks to compete in karting.
His passion for racing eventually started to pay off. In 2013, at just 16 years old, he clinched seven karting titles, including the karting world championship. This success propelled him into the professional racing world, leading him to drop out of school and sign a professional contract with Red Bull at the age of 17. In a recent tweet, the 26-year-old was seen racing on his simulator when he was asked about his favorite subject in school. In a candid confession, the Dutchman said, “I didn’t have any, I hated school.“
