Red Bull had a phenomenal season where they broke several records owing to some blistering performances from Max Verstappen. It was, however, a season marred by a huge controversy about cost cap breach. The resultant sanctions saw them penalized with a reduction in their wind tunnel time. Team boss Christian Horner has now warned his team to not rest on the laurels and to put in more effort for the coming season.
The FIA released its report on 2021’s cost cap, which found Red Bull guilty of overspending. The sanctions had the Milton-Keynes-based team handed a $7 million fine and a 10% reduced wind tunnel time. While the actual breach was around $400,000, it was the failure to report the tax filing correctly that saw it rise to around $1.4 million.

Christian Horner warns the team from getting too complacent
While Red Bull accepted the sanctions from FIA, Christian Horner termed them ‘draconian’. Horner believes the reduced wind tunnel time will severely affect their development programs for next year. On the virtue of this assumption, he has now warned his team to not go easy and urged them to pull up their socks.
“You are learning every race,” GP Fans quoted him saying. “You learn in this business never to expect a quiet life, especially when you are running at the front.”

Mercedes saw an improvement in overall pace and reliability ever since they introduced changes to the car in the US. They did not just challenge Red Bull for the race wins, but also secured a 1-2 finish in Brazil. After a season full of struggles, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff assured the car would see a complete overhaul for next season.
The Race quoted Wolff saying, “I think the DNA of the car is going to change for next year, that’s clear. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the bodywork is going to look very different.” He added, “But certainly, what is part of the DNA of the car, will change for next year.”
