When Jos Gave Max Verstappen a Brutal ‘Wakeup Call’ for ‘Driving Like a Potato’

In an interview with CarNext, Formula 1 superstar Max Verstappen joined the table with two veterans. He sat down with his father, Jos Verstappen, and David Coulthard as they discussed the evolution of Formula 1 and a lot more.

Max and his father walked down memory lane. Jos Verstappen pointed out that sometimes, Max needed a nice wake-up call to perform better. It was when Verstappen was around 9 years old and during one of the championships.

The first session where, according to Max, “I was driving like a potato.” Jos admitted, “I really smashed him on his helmet, bang!”

Max pointed out, “All the mechanics around there were like, uh, what happened there?” Jos further stated, “I say what are you doing? We’re here, it’s the world championships and I think we can win it.”

Max hysterically imitated his father, “Don’t drive normal. We go home, I pack up everything.” However, Jos proudly pointed out his son’s performance in that championship. “Qualifying first, he won all the heats, pre-final and final.”

“Nice wake-up call,” laughed Verstappen. The youngest Formula 1 race winner is now one of the biggest contenders for a world title.

Max Verstappen hopes for a better season next year

Max Verstappen finished the season with a dominating drive at the season finale. He led every lap and won with a comfortable margin. The Dutchman even joked about lowering the power a little towards the last leg of the race.

Lewis Hamilton recently admitted that his team has got a fight on their hands. The indomitable Silver Arrows are aware of Red Bull’s improving performance this season. The threat is looming and Red Bull’s new driver pairing is going to be a force to reckon with.
