The humorous and controversial character of John Daly has always been adored by golf fans. Nonetheless, like any other human being, Daly too had his struggles in the past. The golfer’s gambling addiction has always been a topic of discussion in the world of golf. We throwback to the time when Big John gave reasoning behind his love for gambling.
With 2 Major wins to his name, John Daly does have a taste of being at the pinnacle of the sport. He has always been vocal about his love for gambling as well as drinking. In 2014, Daly revealed that he lost nearly $55-57 million due to gambling from 1991 to 2007.

The 56-year-old has been using his dark past as a source of motivation for the younger generation, enlighting them with words of wisdom about what not to do. Moreover, the golfer had already lost his addiction to gambling several years ago, and once shared why he once loved it.
John Daly reveals why he loved gambling
Decades ago, after shooting a six-under 65 in the second round of the FedEx St Jude Classic in the morning, Daly was feeling a bit lucky that day. Instead of focusing on the third round at the TPC Southwind, Big John decided to go to a nearby casino.

After a great second round, the high-spirited John Daly decided to place a few thousand dollars at stake for a bet. Considering Daly’s past gambles that amount to nearly $9 million, a few thousand look like chump change for the golfer.

When asked about the comparatively less amount of money at stake, Daly replied by revealing why he loves gambling. “I used to gamble to try to make money, but I don’t do that anymore,” the two-time Major winner said, depositing another $200. “I come here to enjoy myself.”
It’s safe to say that the 56-year-old realized what was right for him and what was not. Moreover, John Daly has been a lot more open about his past struggles in recent interviews, giving his fans a much better insight into his past life.
