In the seven years since his debut as an amateur at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Bryson DeChambeau has played with a host of personalities. They range from current superstars such as Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson, to legendary golfers such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. However, ‘The Scientist’ recently had a rare opportunity that others could only dream of. This opportunity was playing a round of golf with a former United States President. That’s exactly what transpired, as DeChambeau got the opportunity to play with Donald Trump.

Trump was playing in the Pro-Am competition, which took place a day before the proceedings began in the third event of the LIV Golf series. The Bedminster, playing host to the event, is a luxury golf club ranked in the “Top 100 Courses in the World”. It is owned by Donald Trump himself and has hosted the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open championship before.

All things said and done, Bryson DeChambeau was a happy man towards the end of the game. “He’s actually a really good golfer,’’ DeChambeau said about Trump “Anytime you can play with a president, past or sitting, it’s just an honor no matter who it is. I feel very lucky to have a relationship with him and he’s always been generous to me.”

He further added, “He’s a big human being and so he’s got that speed. Hopefully I can get him into speed training a little bit. He just hits the ball quickly and he’s up and running.”

What happened at the Pro-Am event?

Trump, along with DeChambeau and two-time major winner Dustin Johnson, formed a team and were the first to hit the tee in the Pro-Am competition. While temperatures soared above 90 degrees, the trio played all 18 holes offered by the course. They were done playing by the afternoon, after which other celebrities and professional golfers made their way to the course.

The individual scores of the trio couldn’t be calculated, as the scoring system at the Pro-AM was a little complicated. It was decided that the second shot would be taken from the best tee shot hit among the three, after which every golfer was on their own.

Trump immediately made it clear that he was taking the game in a lightheartedly, as he showed up late to the tee. He even drove to his fourth hole without completing the third, after hitting one straight into the bunker. His golf swing at the tee was ridiculed, though he managed a respectable distance of roughly 220 yards.

The LIV Golf series will move on to its third event this weekend.
