The LIV Golf employees have seemed to pull the trigger first, seeking court intervention to play in the season-ending FedEx Cup Playoffs, scheduled in August. The PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, has sent out a surprising memo for the same, with many details in place.

The details of the memo revealed the exact 11 players who tried to sue the PGA Tour. The list included Abraham Ancer, Talor Gooch, Matt Jones, Jason Kokrak, Pat Perez, Hudson Swafford, Carlos Ortiz, and Peter Uihlein, among others. Major Championship winners such as Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson were also a part of that list, and so was Ian Poulter, who had been quite vocal over a court intervention.

Monahan also stressed how the rebel golfers were seeking this opportunity to promote themselves and take a free ride on PGA’s benefits. He made it clear that every member who abides by the regulations of the Tour will be defended.

He further added, “And then you reap rewards. It seems your former colleagues have forgotten one important aspect of that equation.”

The memo talked about the attempt to disrupt the Tour and PGA’s ways to prepare to ‘protect its membership’. Monahan also referred to the rebel series as the ‘Saudi Golf League’.

The series is funded by the PIL (Public Investment Fund), the sovereign wealth of Saudi Arabia. It is considered one of the richest sovereign wealth funds in the world, with total estimated assets worth $620 billion.

Meanwhile, the 2022 FedEx Cup Playoffs start this weekend, with the first event set to be held in TPC Southwind, Memphis. The event will move to Delaware before concluding at the Lake Golf Club in Georgia.
