Whenever there is no racing, Formula One teams find ways to be active and still engage with the fans. The best arsenal is humour, especially in terms of trolling other people. Recently, the Mercedes team posted a short clip where Valtteri Bottas was being given a fistbump.

Unfortunately, he was carrying a steaming cup of coffee at the time, and his hand got jostled. As a result, his piping hot cup spilt onto his hand, and his face was priceless!

Whatever the case, the shock of spilling the drink may have jolted him to perform better. This was because Bottas had a rock solid defence and drove like his life depended on it. Due to his impressive driving, the sole surviving Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc could not get past him.

Bottas’ teammate and race-winner, Lewis Hamilton heaped a lot of praise on the Finn. He said, “We work together so it’s all about respect, having respect and, I think that respect has been there since day one. We talk about scenarios very openly. Valtteri has always been respectful in those scenarios and I think it’s vital that we are both acting accordingly, which we do, I think.”

Valtteri Bottas knew that Ferrari had a strong car, good pace and were quick on the straights. So he was aware that if they got close enough, the Silver Arrows would be sitting ducks, especially into Turn 2. For them, the gameplan was to try to keep it together and minimise the mistakes. Bottas complimented the car, especially during the soft tyre stint in the corners.

He concluded, “I think the team did all the right things. Already the decision to start on the mediums to go long in the first stint, you start to hope for that VSC or safety car to come – and today it came, like a miracle.”
