Former UFC dual division champion and the most polarizing fighter Conor McGregor is heading towards a trilogy showdown with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The headlining event will showcase two masters of the game at the absolute peak of their powers battling for the glory.
McGregor put up some extraordinary performances in his meteoric rise to ride his fortune and become the global star. His title matches against Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez cemented his legacy even more.
But lately, his appearances and not so virtuoso performances compared to earlier have put a question mark over his dedication to the sport. A win against Poirier and a subsequent win against Oliveira (possible next fight) could put all doubts to rest.

President Dana White recently appeared for an interview with Brett Okamoto. He detailed how these aforementioned wins can make McGregor an all-time great.
“All of it. It stands out,” White said while comparing earlier wins and possible next wins. “He will go down as one of the greatest of all time. To have lost the belt, gone through the things that happened with him personally, professionally.”
White said it would be great for McGregor to win against the guy (Poirier) who beat him recently and the title fight against Oliveira next.
Why Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier Matters so Much to Everyone?
“Financially, it’s off the charts, and professionally, it’s off the charge. It would make him go down in history as one of the all-time greats,” UFC supremo added.
Conor McGregor recent UFC stats
McGregor (22-5), as mentioned, has featured less compared to his earlier days in the promotion. So less that he has featured in just 3 matches since his lightweight title win against Alvarez in 2016.
Two out of 3 matches have not yielded the result he would have liked. He picked up an impressive sandwiched victory over Cerrone at UFC 246 in between the two massive losses.
