On Saturday, at UFC 262, the promotion got its 11th lightweight champion in the form of Charles Oliveira. The Brazilian got the better of seasoned fighter Michael Chandler via TKO inside two rounds. Many fighters, including ‘Diamond’ Dustin Poirier, shared their views on the same.
After the match, Poirier took to Twitter and congratulated Oliveira for the win, and had words of encouragement for Chandler who lost for the first time in the promotion after registering a victory in his first one.

Poirier said, “Congratulations @CharlesDoBronxs you earned that the hard way! Head up @MikeChandlerMMA highest of the highs and lowest of the lows.”
In brief, Oliveira and Chandler headlined the event and fought for the coveted title. The title last belonged to ‘The Eagle’ Khabib Nurmagomedov who had announced his retirement following his last match at UFC 254 against Justin Gaethje.

The match started with Oliveira taking control and after some back and forth, had Chandler under a guillotine choke. The former Bellator champion got out of it and placed a jab perfectly to dismantle Oliveira for the rest of the round. Oliveira somehow managed to survive that round.
Oliveira then started the second round positively and ultimately landed a left hook to rattle Chandler and subsequently finished the fight with punch combos.
Just like Dustin Poirier, McGregor too tweeted
Poirier’s rival McGregor too tweeted, but had a rather interesting take on Oliveira’s win. He congratulated him for becoming the 11th champion for the promotion by tweeting, “Congrats to Olivera on becoming the 11th UFC lightweight champion. Wonder who Twelve is…”

‘Twelve‘ can be an ode to his whiskey brand Proper Twelve or he is talking about the future possibility of him facing Oliveira next after Poirier consignment.

It is a no-brainer that the winner between McGregor (22-5) and Poirier (27-6) will decide the next challenger for Oliveira’s title. Both are scheduled to meet for their third, and probably final, fight at UFC 264.
McGregor is always a wild card when it comes to title fights. So, Oliveira has enough time at his disposal to figure out strategies to fight either of them.
