After his win over Conor McGregor at UFC 257, ‘The Diamond’ had the chance to fight for the vacant belt against Charles Oliveira. However, Poirier opted for a rematch against Conor McGregor to settle the trilogy and secure a massive payday.
The move received a lot of criticism from fans and pundits alike. Dana White, however, believed that it was absolutely the right thing to do for Poirier. After his win over McGregor at UFC 264, it looked all but certain that Oliveira would be next for Dustin Poirier.
