A catchweight bout between Jared Gooden and Randy Brown will be the last fight prior to the main event at UFC Vegas 39. The bout was initially set to take place at welterweight.

However, Gooden missed weight and weighed in at 174-pounds, three pounds over the weight limit for non-title fights. This meant that the bout would not go ahead as a welterweight bout and also Brown would receive 20% of Gooden’s purse as compensation.

Needless to say, Brown was extremely displeased with the incident and took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the same. Despite all the recent drama, the fight between the two men will go ahead as intended. Therefore, we take a closer look at the strengths and weaknesses of both fighters and map out a possible route to victory for both men involved in the bout.

Jared Gooden vs Randy Brown will be a banger of a fight at UFC Vegas 39

Both Randy Brown and Jared Gooden are currently unranked in the UFC’s welterweight division. ‘Rudeboy’ and ‘Nite Train’ come into the fight on the back of impressive finishes in their last outings.

Brown and Gooden are primarily strikers. They have secured 46% and 44% of their wins respectively via T/KO. The common consensus is that the fight will most likely not go the distance as both Brown and Gooden are always looking for the finish.

‘Rudeboy’ will have a one-inch reach advantage going into the fight. In his UFC career thus far, Brown has landed 3.41 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.42 in return. His opponent, on the other hand, has landed 6.67 significant strikes per minute in his UFC career thus far. However, he absorbs a mind-boggling 11.2 significant strikes per minute, which is a huge cause for concern.

A lot of the fight will depend on how sharp Gooden is defensively. He will not be able to stay in the fight for a long time if his defense is as leaky as it has been in his past few outings.
