Kyle Busch was, is, and will be one of the most divisive personalities that NASCAR has witnessed. Among the most successful drivers this century, he created a legacy for himself like none other. He won the Cup Series twice, in 2015 and again in 2019. But with hints of a decline, it is time to celebrate that legacy in the best manner possible.

Busch began his Cup Series career with Hendrick Motorsports. While his performances were not bad, he wasn’t brilliant either – and was displaced by the entry of Dale Earnhardt Jr to the team.

That led to Busch moving to Joe Gibbs Racing, a team yet to find its mojo or win something of great consequence. But for both, Busch and JGR, this was the signing that would change everything. The next 15 years, from 2008 through 2022, were what defined Busch as a legend and JGR as a team with significant credentials.

The ride wasn’t smooth; it hardly ever is in NASCAR. But Busch won, and he won big. 2 Cup Series titles, alongside other great seasons put him up there with the best. Like all great stories, this one had an ending too.

2022 was the season all of it came to a head. His primary sponsor, Mars & Wrigley, decided against renewing their partnership. JGR went one step further and announced that the season would be his last with the team.

All that happened simply signified how his career had been. Meteoric rises accompanied by devastating falls – but the common thread always was Busch managing to stage a comeback.

Now that he moves to Richard Childress Racing for the 2023 season, he has a chance to stage one more comeback. A fairytale ending to a storied career like his would make for great drama.
