NASCAR has been bringing in some massive changes over the last few years. First, the Atlanta Motor Speedway became a 1.54-mile long oval (quite superspeedway-ish), and now it has introduced a street course in Chicago. Even the schedules are no longer the same. In the face of such rapid changes and evolutions, Kyle Busch is driven to prepare his son Brexton for anything and everything.

With 63 Cup Series victories and an impeccable record in Xfinity and Truck Series, Busch has seen his fair share of the tracks and courses. He now aims to use all his insights to prepare his son to become a better NASCAR driver than him. Even if it means that Brexton won’t become a racer like him. 

In a recent pre-race interview at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Busch revealed that he plans on preparing his son in a style that is typical of the Hendrick Motorsports ace, Kyle Larson. As a father thinking for his son’s best course, is he even wrong?

Kyle Busch wants Brexton to be like Kyle Larson; but why?

With the different avenues that NASCAR is exploring and adapting, Kyle Busch is indoctrinating versatility in Brexton. And who better to follow in this regard than Kyle Larson? Kyle Busch is making sure that seven-year-old Brexton becomes comfortable with all kinds of racing in all kinds of vehicles. 

“Some people tell me that they think that’s hurting his development or slowing his development down in particular cars. And I’m like—well, yeah, but he can go run against any kid in the country and run top-three everywhere we go in any vehicle that we run in,” opined Busch. His priorities are clear about training Brexton—to help him develop a solid sense of car control. This will help enhance his adaptability to any kind of racing car and any kind of racing in general. Kyle Larson seems like an ideal inspiration, given his extensive knowledge and experience in different forms of stock car racing.

Be it dirt racing, open-wheel racing, sprint cars, quarter midgets, or trucks, the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race winner has done it all. It is this quality of his that Busch wants Brexton to have. “I feel like that’s a Kyle Larson-type thing – where we’re not just focused on quarter midgets or outlaw karts. He only does that and he’s really good at that,” he added. Indeed, the one thing that Larson and Brexton Busch have had right from the beginning is the perpetual spirit for racing and learning new kinds of racing. Busch further mentioned the one thing Kevin Harvick’s son Keelan Harvick has been doing rigorously—go-kart racing. Busch admits that this is one avenue that Brexton hasn’t adequately explored.

Being seven years old with a 3-year-old career, Brexton has already been making ripples with his achievements in racing. Racing is in his blood, and he is set on a mission to prove himself. Brexton bagged his first victory just one month into his career. What started as the first win at Mountain Creek Speedway in 2020 has escalated to eight victories across five different categories of racing, in two variations of racecars in 2022. 

Well, it seems like Kyle Larson has some serious competition in Brexton Busch! With both racers born with a hunger to win, and not in just one arena, the similarities in the style of both racers are undeniable. Fans can’t wait to witness the two race against each other.
