The 2023 season so far has been a disappointing one for NASCAR’s golden boy. Earlier in the season, he had been sidelined for six races after he suffered from a broken tibia in a snowboarding accident. While he was trying to make a favorable comeback after being sidelined, he was then slapped with a one-race suspension after the debacle at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

His best finish after his comeback has been at Darlington, where he finished third. But things may look up for him as there is no denying the fact that he has never faltered when it came to racing at the road courses, like Sonoma, where the Toyota/ Save Mart 350 is slated to happen on Sunday.

Chase Elliott has always been termed as the ‘Road Course King’, given his unparalleled victories in 2020, his Cup Series championship year. He has seven road course victories that remain unparalleled. But will the No.9 be able to continue the streak? This has been the topic of discussion on FOX’s “NASCAR Race Hub.”

NASCAR Analyst Has a Piece of Advice for Chase Elliott’s Crew Chief

The Hendrick Motorsports ace is yet to secure a win this season and make himself eligible for the Playoffs. He is yet to make a mark and dominate the roads of NASCAR with the next-gen cars. But his team as well as the driver of No.9 Chevrolet is hopeful of the fact that he will be able to deliver a favorable result after coming back from suspension. But the last few races in the past two seasons have not been a memorable one, not even the road courses, which happened to be his strong point.

He did have a shot at winning at Watkins Glen in the last season, where he had his very first win, and also at Roval, but was unable to do so due to unforeseen circumstances. 

But it seems that NASCAR analyst Larry McReynolds has his opinions about the No.9 HMS team. He shared his thoughts on the “NASCAR Race Hub” and opined, “When you go to a road course, Chase Elliott’s in the conversation. I mean he leads all active drivers with seven road course wins. He’s one on five different roads, and now Sonoma is not one of them.”

“His best finish there was a second a couple of years ago to Kyle Larson, but he has not won in almost two years on a road course. You have to go back to 2021, he has never won on a road course in this next-gen car.”

He also asserted the fact, “But with that said, if I am Alan Gustafson, I gather the flock, chasing that team, and go. You know what this is the most bizarre season, let’s just stop and pretend this is the start of the season and let’s move on from there.”

To which his co-host added, “There just needs a clean slate there for Chase Elliott.”

The past year has not been ideal for the driver, as he had failed to win even a single road course race. And to add to the pains of the driver, it seems that there is a strong contender for his King title, from 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick. For the past few races on road courses, the young prodigy has proved his skills when it came to road courses.

The last time he failed to deliver good results was at Sonoma last year, due to brake rotor failure. But since then he has only tasted victory when it came to dominating the road courses. 

This also led to his teammate Bubba Wallace crowning him with the title of ‘Jesus’ of the road courses during the pre-race conference at Sonoma.

Well, the question that looms in the air, is whether the No.9 will be able to shut down all the critics by delivering a stellar finish and by taking the podium. Or will it be Tyler Reddick who will get his redemption on the tracks of Sonoma where he had once retired early from the race?
