Last weekend at the Daytona 500, Ricky Stenhouse Jr was the unexpected victor. A win at the Daytona 500 does look great on a resume, and Stenhouse Jr has officially ticked it off his list. Soon afterward, the driver clambered out of his car to celebrate his triumph with his team and later on climbed the catch fence to celebrate.

Speaking with Adam Alexander on the NASCAR Race Hub, Stenhouse Jr said, “My guys, they got out the car when I jumped off the roof. They said, ‘Let’s go climb the fence!’ I was like, ‘Let me do this interview first and then we’ll go.’ When I turned around, they were gone, so I still went ahead and climbed it.

“I got up there and got a good hold on a cable. The fans were yelling so much, I was like, ‘Well I guess I’ll do a couple of pull-ups just for good measure.'”

As it happens, the #47 driver for JTG Daugherty Racing is no stranger to the victory lane. In 2017, he won at the Talladega Superspeedway and the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at the Daytona International Speedway. So if we’re being completely honest, Stenhouse Jr’s win really should not have come as a surprise. This is because all three of his wins have come at superspeedways.

For now, Stenhouse Jr will be content to enjoy his triumph for a little while longer. Of course, he cannot afford to rest on his laurels for too long, because the season is long and hectic for drivers. Admittedly, it is hard to predict after just one race if he will be able to secure his berth in the Playoffs.

Last year, there were multiple race winners which made things very unpredictable. Whether this will happen in the 2023 Cup Series season is a different matter altogether. Those questions will only be answered when the next race of the season swings by later this weekend.
