Kevin Harvick announced his retirement ahead of the start of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Season. The SHR driver is undoubtedly one of the greats of the sport with 60 Cup Series wins and multiple titles across different NASCAR series. In a recent press conference ahead of the race in New Hampshire, Kevin shared some interesting insights on his retirement plans.

Now that he is close to putting his career out to pasture, this year has been quite enjoyable for him, as he could just let his guard down and think out loud. Moreover, Kevin’s retirement plans have been in play for about a year and a half now with new updates brewing up under the KHI umbrella.

A quick look into Kevin Harvick’s retirement plans and his career advice

Ever since Kevin announced his retirement, he has kept his retirement plans quite close to his chest. But, during the press conference, when asked about his future plans with SHR and KHI, here’s what he said,

“There’s really nothing happening at Stewart House Racing for me personally. But, I think from a management standpoint, we’ve gone and restructured all that to be able to spend more time with the drivers and the things that they’re doing and the teams. We will run several late models and super late models out of our shop next year and so that’s already in process.

“We’ve been going through the new look of what everything will look like as far as KHI and KHI management. We opened up an E-Z-GO dealership in Mooresville. So, that stuff’s kind of like the retirement stuff and it’s all been in play for the last year and a half.”

A while ago, he also gave career advice to KHI drivers. He said, “You have to be able to go out and live your life and do things to keep yourself sane or this deal will eat you up.”

Although Kevin has had a very successful career in NASCAR, his thrust into the world of NASCAR was under tragic circumstances.

Kevin Harvick was called up from the Xfinity Series by Childress after the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt in the 2001 season. He spoke about the circumstance of his arrival in the Cup Series and how important it was for him to put that iconic car on the top step.

“Looking back on it now, you realize the importance of getting in the Cup car, and then we wound up winning my first race at Atlanta in the 29 car after Dale’s death,” said Kevin.

“The significance and the importance of keeping that car on the race track and winning that race early at Atlanta – knowing now what it meant to the sport, and just that moment in general of being able to carry on, was so important.”

It took Kevin just three races to take the #29 Chevrolet car to the victory lane at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. He also went on to become the Rookie of the Year in 2001.
