“Time and tide wait for none” is perhaps the ever-flowing truth of life, and no one can escape from its clutches, not even the world of NASCAR. The 7x Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson was found in a pickle after his rookie driver Noah Gragson was suspended by NASCAR. The driver himself requested a termination of the contract with the team, leaving Legacy Motor Club in distressed waters and the No. 42 Chevrolet without a driver.

Yet, it can’t rain forever, as LMC found the perfect yet temporary solution through the dexterity of Niece Sports’ Truck Series prodigy, Carson Hocevar. As a result, the promising driver was able to graduate to the elite series of NASCAR through the hands of Spire Motorsports, commencing in the 2024 season, creating a void in Hocevar’s initial team and leaving it without a potential driver. However, it seems that Niece Motorsports has finally found a way to fill in the boots of Jimmie Johnson’s prodigy.

Since the suspension of Noah Gragson, three different drivers have piloted the No. 42 Chevrolet, including Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s pride Josh Berry, Johnsosn’s Le Mans partner Mike Rockenfeller, and Truck Series prodigy Carson Hocevar. Moreover, after months of tumultuousness, the team was finally able to taste success through the adroitness of the Truck Series driver.

Carson Hocevar finished within the top 20 in his short stint and also wheeled his car as high as P5 in the races. Owing to his successful journey, Hocevar was appointed to replace Ty Dillon in the No.77 car at Spire Motorsports, commencing with the 2024 season. As a result, the prodigy’s initial team at Truck Series, Niece Motorsports, was left in distress and hunting for a suitable replacement.

It seems that the team has finally found the light at the end of the tunnel, as it announced its new driver for the 2024 season. The driver is none other than Matt Mills, the part-time driver at Kyle Busch Motorsports. Nevertheless, Mills, in his 23 truck starts, has scored one top 5, coming from his appearance at Richmond, and one top finish. The driver has also made 123 starts in the Xfinity Series and has also made a debut appearance in the Cup Series.

The news was broken to the world by Mills himself on Twitter. He wrote, “This is an unbelievable opportunity to continue the momentum created this season. Thank you, @NieceMotorsport, @TeamChevy, @jf_electric, and @utilitra_wbe! I can’t wait to get started @DAYTONA in February[…]”

In his press interview, the driver expressed, I’m really excited to join the Niece Motorsports team for the full Truck Series season next year. This is a great opportunity for me to get into top-tier equipment. It felt good to get on track this year and show speed, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue that. I’m so thankful to everyone at J.F. Electric and Utilitra for believing in me and their continued support.”
