While the recent NASCAR race event was quite eventful and engaging, there are a lot of controversies in the sport that many may not notice! For instance, recently we see the emergence of a new trend. NASCAR drivers these days don’t seem to value sportsmanship as they are constantly in each other’s faces, bumping and crashing each other! Another trend seen in the sport is caution flags. And Denny Hamlin had something to say about this.

Hamlin has been voicing his thoughts on his popular podcast Action Detrimental for quite some time now. But this time around, the veteran NASCAR driver points out a unique pattern in NASCAR that critics have always mentioned.

Known for his honest approach in his podcasts, Hamlin shared an interesting take on the podcast with his co-host Jared Allen.

Citing last week’s dirt race in Bristol Motor Speedway, the #11 driver mentions how different things have become, he also addressed the age-old caution system that has garnered criticism from fans.

Denny Hamlin speaks his mind while siding with caution-critics

First Hamlin explains how the race went, mentioning the obvious dynamics of a NASCAR track car on a dirt race. “Our cars they just react differently in the dirt than they do than actual dirt cars that have dirt suspension.” 

The driver even mentions how his team started off and his experience doing this for 3 years. Then, soon after explaining his point, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver comes across a peculiar pattern in NASCAR!

As he states, “One thing I definitely learned when I watched the race back, if the wreck was on Tv, they are not gonna throw caution. So back there was running, there was I mean, people, there was so many crashes that yall did not see unless yall were there in person because the tv did show.”

#11 driver elaborated on how the caution system used is based on a time window. Following the intense action-packed race in Bristol, Hamlin voiced the disparity.

“There was cars wrecking all over the place, no caution, I mean there’s sh*t all over the racetrack, no caution.” said the JGR driver. “I think they just, again, they just give up saying this race has taken so long we’re not throwing any more cautions, but it just creates inconsistency right?” 

Known to advocate the short format of the sport, Denny Hamlin further says, “But there were cars wrecked, they were wrecked and no caution, we just kept ongoing, so that level of inconsistency you know that uh you know, if you don’t want the race to be long, then dont have so many laps.”

Also, the NASCAR veteran bluntly reminds the organization about being consistent and adding timely cautions without any disparity. “Then don’t have so many laps because we’re gonna have, we’re gonna spin out quite a bit and throw every caution consistently, we don’t wanna have to do it based off of your time window.”

Notorious for its bumpy undulations, the Bristol track was a bumpy ride for many drivers as they kept bumping and crashing into each other in the race. Along with the dirt that loosens up through the course of the race, drivers also added to the notoriety of the race.

With majors rivalries between Kyle Larson and Ryan Preece, along with the rest of the drivers racing aggressively, the fans witnessed many drivers getting wrecked and sidelined, Joey Logano who won the dirt race on the same track 2 years ago clearly struggled to maintain top position.
