During the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff Media Day in Charlotte on August 31 this year, Denny Hamlin told the reporters, “I don’t have anything new to announce.” “I’m not trying to leak one word, either, one way or another. It’s on to Darlington.”

Until then, his 2024 season was under a cliffhanger as JGR didn’t sign the contract extension with him. When badgered by questions about his 2024 plans, he couldn’t hold himself from saying and told, “See, that’s a play on words. That’s not nice. Why would you do that?” Then Hamlin pointed out his future security plan and said, “I have a race team. I always have options.”

“As a race car driver, you’re at the mercy of whoever will hire you. I will hire me,” Hamlin said, boasting an extra layer of independence.
