The Golden State Warriors seem to be somewhere in the middle of the Western Conference. With a 6-5 record and three straight losses, the Warriors don’t seem to have too many bright spots on their roster apart from Stephen Curry. Despite having Klay Thompson and Draymond Green in the starting lineup, head coach Steve Kerr still seems worried.

Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr recently addressed a few issues that the team is having on the hardwood floor while talking to the media. Putting all his chips on Curry, is Kerr wrong in being concerned for the team?

The Warriors are fresh off a loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves. A tough loss that could’ve gone either way up until the final minutes of the game. Despite having their entire starting lineup in the game, the Warriors could not close this one out. And it seemed like another game between the opposing team and Stephen Curry instead of the entire Warriors squad, much like their previous matchup against the Cavaliers.

Following the loss against the Timberwolves, Steve Kerr sat down with the media. And one reporter highlighted that no one apart from Stephen Curry has scored more than 20 points so far this season. A distressed Kerr said, No question. We need some scoring and playmaking from elsewhere.”

“So, we gotta keep plugging away and we’ll go from there and see where that takes us.” The reporter went to ask about getting the younger players on the team more playing time, given how they performed in limited minutes.

To that, Kerr said, “We’ve seen that Brandin (Podziemski) and Trayce (Jackson-Davis) are ready to contribute. We saw it in training camp, these guys are ready. And so, we have to make the decision if we wanna get them out there more.”

“I’d love to. It’s tricky because we’ve already got a lot of people who are playing 10 even without those guys. And I like everybody that I’m playing. But if we struggle then we gotta get guys out there who are gonna give us a spark and they’re both capable.”

Stephen Curry is doing all he can

The Warriors’ offense has heavily relied on Stephen Curry for the past few years. But now, it seems as if the team does not have anyone else apart from The Chef to take on the offensive responsibilities.

Stephen Curry has been nothing but amazing so far this season. Curry not only reached the 22,000-point mark in his NBA career but also became the oldest player to average 30 PPG in the first 10 games of the season.

His most recent performance had 38 points along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Whereas the rest of the Warriors’ starters had a combined total of 33 points against the Timberwolves. This past week, Curry has averaged 30.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 4.8 APG, shooting 52.3% from beyond the arc. He even tied Rick Barry for the second most free throws in franchise history after his last game.

Curry has been breaking accolades and making records as each game passes. One of which is having the longest streak in NBA history with 11 straight games of 4+ threes to start the year.

So, there is no doubt that Curry has been doing everything in his power to carry the Warriors. Including having back-to-back 30-point games. So, the real question is, can Curry sustain the Warriors’ offense night in and night out?

Moreover, who will rise to the occasion if Curry suffers an injury and gets sidelined?

A dismal Warriors squad

The Golden State Warriors have four more All-Stars on their roster apart from Stephen Curry. They have Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green in the starting lineup while bringing Chris Paul off the bench.

At first, it seemed as if Paul was fitting in perfectly with the Warriors’ second unit. But with the way Golden State has been playing, should the Warriors coaching staff consider bringing Paul into the starting lineup?

If the Warriors do choose to go in that direction, the best option would be sending Kevon Looney to the bench to have the best chance at offense on every possession. Also, bringing Chris Paul into the starting five will take the ball-handling responsibilities off Curry and will help him move more freely around the court.

If the Warriors choose to continue with the current lineup, then players like Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins need to step up. Wiggins was a big contributor in the Warriors’ last championship year when Thompson was out with an injury.

But he hasn’t seemed like that same player for a while now. As for Klay Thompson, is it safe to assume that his game has finally started to decline? The other half of the Splash Brothers duo, Thompson’s season average hasn’t been this low since his second year in the league.
