Growing up, youngsters tend to idolize certain players from their favorite sports. It is no surprise to see them trying to copy their favorite players’ moves on the court. Stephen Curry in this regard was no different. Despite being the son of an NBA legend himself, there were two players that Steph idolized and wanted to emulate the most growing up.

Given that Stephen Curry was drafted in 2009, players from the 90s and early 2000s come to mind. But it was neither the Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan nor the late Los Angeles Lakers icon, Kobe Bryant.

Stephen Curry was never the tallest player growing up. While his father was 6’4, Steph went on to clock out at 6’2. So, it was natural for him to idolize players that were about his size or emulate those players that he could.

Both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant played their game well above the rim for most of their careers. So, that may not have been an option for Steph being an undersized dunker and high-flyer.

In a recent sitdown on First We Feast’s YouTube channel, the Golden State Warriors guard ate some hot wings, all the while trying his best to keep it together. That is when the host asked him if there was any player he modeled his game after while growing up.

Curry was quick to name two NBA legends, Steve Nash and Reggie Miller. Curry said, “I get real emotional while talking about these two legends that were such great influences on my game.”

Curry’s choice of the two players could not have been better given the track record of both Nash and Miller.

Another player that impressed Curry

Stephen Curry went on to talk about both players and why he chose to model and emulate his game after them.

Curry said, “Reggie because he was a master at creating space without the ball. Find a way to get separation to go out and get a pass and a quick release. I never could emulate his form because he’d do like this when you shoot it.”

Though Curry did not reveal what he took from Steve Nash’s game, he did name another player. It was none other than NBA legend, Alonzo Mourning. Curry revealed how he and his brother would emulate his free throw routine growing up.
