The concept of watching the best compete didn’t live up to the night. Many have blamed the lack of effort to be the reason. But Anthony Davis has a whole new outlook on the situation. Unfortunately for him, the fans weren’t pleased with the Los Angeles Lakers star, at the very least.

This year’s game spelled doom even before the day arrived. Several biggest and most entertaining stars wouldn’t be a part of the game. Kevin Durant and Zion Williamson both cite foot injuries. But the major attraction who wouldn’t be present on a starry night was Stephen Curry. The Baby Face Assassin embodies the spirit the All-Star game calls for. His unimaginably long threes and showtime plays are enough to electrify the entire NBA universe.

Without him, the All-Star game had already suffered a major casualty. The rating plummeted to an all-time low for 2023, according to Jon Lewis with Sports Media Watch. Reacting to the news, Davis chose to go for revenge. The Lakers center felt his absence led to the abysmal results.

Late into the season, the eight-time All-Star was absent over a 20-game stretch. However, players such as Jaren Jackson Jr. and Williamson had nearly the same participation.

Ultimately, both of them were named All-Stars, while Anthony Davis missed out. So once he watched the rating drop, the four-time All-NBA first-team member had to hit back. That’s the reason he sarcastically took the blame for the same. He said, “Oh wow. Maybe because I wasn’t in it.”

It’s safe to say this wasn’t received well by the fans. The NBA world felt Davis was overvaluing himself over the likes of someone like Stephen Curry.

The major reasons for the failures weren’t just the lack of star power. Despite some big names missing, the battlefield had the talent. However, there didn’t seem to be any willingness to compete and try. It felt close to a shoot-around, with over 120 threes attempted on the night. The defense was nonexistent for the entire duration. Even as Jayson Tatum broke AD’s record with 55 points, it went in vain.
