LeBron James Shatters Opening Game Scoring Record in Lakers’ Loss to the Warriors

The brand new NBA season commenced on Tuesday with two blockbuster encounters. In one of them, the Golden State Warriors overcame LeBron James and the Lakers. It was a tight finish, with the final quarter proving to be the game changer. Now in the 19th season of his illustrious career, James has shattered numerous records along the way. On the opening night, the 36-year-old added another feather to his cap.

Over the years, James has evolved into one of the powerhouses of the league. His roaring intensity on the court makes him a tenacious competitor. He has averaged 27 points since his first season, and his fitness is what makes him a proven winner year after year. In season openers, containing the superstar is a totally different ballgame. Against Stephen Curry’s men, the 17-time All-star became the most prolific scorer too.

LeBron James becomes most prolific scorer in NBA’s season openers
The Lakers started their season opener on a high note, courtesy of star duo James and Davis. They were consistent throughout, and accumulated a lot of points. However, the lack of support meant that the Warriors eventually caught up, and then raced ahead. Although Frank Vogel’s yellow army fell short, LeBron James’ top performance earned him yet another record.

As reported by StatMuse, the former Cavalier now has the most points in the opening games of the season. James (481 points) overtook Karl Malone, who previously held the record with 463 points. The veteran is showing no signs of stopping either, and is capable of featuring in more opening games. Completing the top-5, are Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Paul Pierce. ‘The King’ is also the only active player in the top-10 players on the list.
