The season has just started, and Luka Doncic is already making and breaking records. In their recent game where the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Houston Rockets by 113-100, they were also welcoming their star player back after he sat out in their game against the Chicago Bulls. Starting for the injured Luka against the Bulls was Jalen Brunson, who also set a record by bagging 31 points. Since 2015, he became the only Mavs player besides Luka to score 30+points in a match.

Now, being back just one game, Luka has set a record of his own. What’s even more impressive is that he has surpassed LeBron James as well. According to the NBA, “Luka Doncic is the 4th fastest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists (games played).”

While LeBron achieved this feat within 158 games, Luka has done it by playing just 139 games. Ahead of him are Magic Johnson at 126 games, Ben Simmons at 123 games, and Oscar Robertson at just 98 games.

The brilliance of this player doesn’t stop here. He also became the player to hit the most triple-doubles before turning 22, as per StatMuse.

Luka Doncic deserves the MVP award

In the 2019-20 season MVP voting, Doncic finished fourth behind James Harden, LeBron James, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Though Giannis took the trophy home, very few were happy with that.

And now, Luka is rumored to be the most likely candidate to win it this year. Before the season was suspended, Luka had already caught everyone’s attention with his stellar performances. Since 2016, the Mavs hadn’t made it to the playoffs, but Luka made it happen last season.

The guard was close to averaging a triple-double last season too. He averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists. In fact, the star can also look forward to a massive pay raise in the upcoming season. This season saw many max extensions like Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Utah Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell.  A deal similar to this seems to be in Doncic’s near future.

After being the underdogs that surprised everyone, for the Mavs, this season is all about being better. Although they haven’t started off the season as well as one would expect, as long as they have Luka, anything is possible for Dallas.
