A fast-food franchise worth $5 billion tweeted about Karl-Anthony Towns’ remarks. After the loss to the San Antonio Spurs on October 24, the Minnesota Timberwolves star took a friendly shot at teammate Anthony Edwards. Though Towns’ comments were out of concern, it ended up in the fast-food chain retaliating on social media.

The Spurs ended up defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in their first matchup. Although Towns had an excellent game. The same cannot be said for Anthony Edwards. Edwards was the number one overall pick by the Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA draft.

Towns with some advice for Edwards

After the game, Towns was asked whether there was anything he could do to help Edwards’ game. To that, Towns said, “Maybe I could do a better job of teaching him how to take care of his body, diet, and everything.”

He also added, “That’ll be on me. I know y’all think it’s funny up here when he talks about Popeyes and all that s–t. That doesn’t make me happy to hear. We’re high-level athletes.”

And as soon as Towns said that, the official Twitter handle of Popeye’s chicken tweeted, “Good luck to every high level athlete who eats Popeyes regardless of what their teammates say.” Fans couldn’t help but react to this.

One fan tweeted, “Corny,” while another fan commented, “Why? They fixing to pop positive for some new performance enhancing drug your using in your chicken? what’s really in that Spivey chicken sandwich that started a war?”

Even Minnesota Timberwolves broadcaster Michael Grady tweeted, “Wild for this.”

Edwards love for Popeyes

Edwards once showed up on the podium with Popeyes takeout after a game. He has also done a commercial for Popeyes on UberEats with Ja Morant. The two had a dunk contest on how they dip their chicken pieces in sauces.

Edwards has shown signs of being a great player every now and then. But the game against the San Antonio Spurs wasn’t one of them. Karl- Anthony Towns had 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists for the game. But Anthony Edwards was lackluster for that night.

He ended the game with 9 points, shooting 1-8 from beyond the arc and going 3-15 from the field. Edwards did have 10 rebounds to go along with it, but it wasn’t enough as the San Antonio Spurs came out on top 115-106.

Let’s see if Edwards takes his teammate’s advice and cuts down on fast food while the Minnesota Timberwolves prepare for the next game.
