WATCH: Daniel Ricciardo Revives Long-Standing Pierre Gasly Tradition With French GP Fans

It is no secret that McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo is a bit of a jokester in the F1 paddock. The Australian driver loves to have a good time and a good laugh at every opportunity he gets. Recently, he has been having a good time joking around with Pierre Gasly.

Ricciardo was caught making fun of Gasly‘s name in his joky manner. But he took to the next level at the French Grand Prix, which is the home race for Gasly. While interacting with the French crowd, he asked the fans to say their home hero’s name as he does.

“Alright everyone, give me a Pierre Gasly all right,” said Ricciardo. The crowd joined in on the fun and screamed out the name in the manner Ricciardo does.

While having fun off the track, Ricciardo was a bit frustrated with his performance in the French GP qualifying on Saturday at Paul Ricard.

The McLaren driver finished the session in P11 and just missed out on the Top 10 by less than a tenth. But he will start the race in P9 as drivers ahead of him will serve their engine penalties. The Aussie driver was not entirely happy with his performance but remains hopeful for a better result on Sunday.

“I think we’ve been hanging around the top ten all weekend, so it showed we’re on the brink of it. We’ll gain a few spots tomorrow with some engine penalties, so that will move us up the grid.”

“Then we just need to make a good start and hopefully, we can show some good race pace and tire management. I think that’ll be key for tomorrow,” said Ricciardo.

It would have been interesting to see had he qualified in the Top-10, where would he have ended up? P9 is a good starting position for the Aussie driver to progress in the race. He really needs a clean race in which he can gain some positions and finish as high as possible.
