LeBron James was one of the most hyped players coming into the league back in 2003 and he surely has lived up to it. James has been one of the top names for the entirety of his career, breaking records and setting new ones every now and then. As James approaches the all-time scoring record, Brooklyn Nets star and 2x NBA champion Kevin Durant gives his take on what it would take for Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic to reach the level of LeBron James.
Kevin Durant came into the league four years after LeBron James was drafted. He has seen and played against ‘The King’ throughout his career, battling in back-and-forth games in some of the most iconic games in NBA history.

As each game passes, LeBron James comes closer to breaking the all-time scoring record held by the Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Recently, Luka Doncic gave his opinion on the comparison drawn between him and James.
He was asked if he saw himself playing 20 years in the league to catch up to ‘The King.’ Doncic denied that he saw himself playing in the league for so long. And even Kevin Durant had somewhat of the same take.

Durant said, “At this point Luka could be like, I want to play 20 years or I don’t wanna play 20 years. But we know, in order for you to beat the all-time record, we know what it takes now, we’ve seen the criteria.”
“You gotta average 27 points a game for 1000-plus games for 20 years. We know the formula now,” added Durant. He also mentioned how Doncic can be in control of his legacy and that is what he is doing right now.

Will Luka Doncic be able to surpass LeBron James?
Luka Doncic is in his fifth year in the league with the Mavericks. He won the Rookie of the Year award in his first year in the league and has played in three All-Star games so far. Not only that but Doncic has already become the team’s leader in almost every stat there is.

One could say that he is following in the footsteps of LeBron James who did the same during his first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, in order for James to win a title, he had to leave Cleveland and pair up with another star in Miami.
