The Phoenix Suns wasted a historic opportunity when they lost the NBA Finals in 2021. Had they won, they could’ve become the first team in NBA history to play their first postseason after a ten-year drought and yet become champions. But their complacency after two home wins proved expensive and that record never saw daylight.

So now, more than any other squad, the Suns would be desperate to win the whole thing when the season kicks off in October. To make that happen, they’ve re-signed all of their key players using bird rights and have also added a few stars. So what does their starting five look like?

Phoenix Suns’ Frontcourt

Jae Crowder (PF)

It is hard to forget the altercation between Jae Crowder and LeBron James from Game 4 of their Round 1. That was a very physical Jae against the best in the game, not allowing the King to intimidate him inside the paint. Jae was certainly a defensive force in the playoffs and also someone with very trustworthy perimeter shooting hands.

DeAndre Ayton (C)

Shout-out for one of the most efficient centers in the league, all hail DeAndre Ayton. The man registered an effective goal percentage close to 66% in the playoff series and saved a game for the Suns against the Clippers. Apart from his struggles against the Bucks, the man was a clear game-winner for the Suns and he is poised to repeat that next season.

Mikal Bridges (SF)

A diverse shooter and an incredibly confident player, Mikal uses his high-release point to defeat his defenders. Last season, the forward player started each of his games for the first time in his three years with the Suns. He also averaged a career-high 13.5 points and was one of the very few players who played 94 games (regular + postseason).

Backcourt

Chris Paul (PG)

With the arrival of Elfrid Payton, CP3 certainly has a backup point guard ready to allow him some load management. However, the Suns would still need Chris Paul to deliver each night if they’re to claim the tabletop of WC, which they marginally missed in 2020-21. Not just his playmaking, but his scoring prowess will come in handy when Devin Booker will have his dull nights.

Devin Booker (SG)

True, Landry Shamet’s incoming will have a boost of confidence in DBook, but the young man still has a lot riding on his shoulders. The Olympic champion lost his touch in the closing games of the NBA Finals and he would want to change that in the approaching year. Another All-Star season will go a long way to the star and his legacy.
