An NBA team’s most recent appearance in the finals isn’t the only criteria to predict a winner. Charles Barkley goes by the most current roster. One team that has been discounted by almost everyone is his favorite to win the 2023-24 title. Even he was critical of the same team a few months ago. But now that they fixed the gaps in the lineup, he has the $4 billion franchise making history this season. But what makes Chuck this confident?

He’s keeping an eye out on the lineups as a whole. While some rosters aren’t impressing him, one revamped team has Sir Charles prematurely excited.

The NBA season only just kicked off and Charles Barkley already has a vision for the end. He sees one team picking up the Larry O’Brien trophy. The illustrious news anchor, Chris Wallace, asked him in a quickfire Q&A who he thinks will win the NBA championship this season. Barkley didn’t have to waste time mulling his answer to say the Boston Celtics.

If Chuck is right, the Celtics will win their first championship in 16 years. Since winning their last title in 2008, the Celtics made their latest finals appearance in 2022. But despite remaining atop the standings consistently, the team has fallen short of the ultimate goal. This led Barkley himself to be critical of them previously.

He changed his tune because of Boston’s newest acquisitions. Barkley didn’t have the opportunity to explain his reasons to Wallace but revealed them ahead of the Celtics opening game. The team made a blockbuster acquisition with Kristaps Porzingis in the offseason which ticks every box for Sir Charles. Not only that, they filled the glaring vacuum in the team by acquiring Jrue Holiday at the same time.

The one thing the Celtics were missing was a point guard, and they got probably the best point guard available,” the NBA analyst said about Holiday. He showed all that defensive talent against the Knicks, helping the Celtics start the season with a 108-104 victory.

At first, Barkley picked Holiday’s former team, the Bucks to win. Then when the trade happened, he said, “I’d probably pick the Celtics to win this thing. I like the (Kristaps) Porzingis trade.” Until recently, that wasn’t his opinion.

Chuck believes in the unicorn

For most, the proof of the unicorn’s existence is Kristaps Porzingis himself. He’s at least the factor making Barkley’s dream come true.

In the most recent Eastern Conference Finals, Barkley even called the Celtics “stupid.” Now that they have the Latvian titan, he found something magical. The Unicorn avenged the ECF humiliation by Miami in their matchup today.

The Holiday-Porzingis combo led the team to another win ending the score at 119-111. The franchise and its fans are seeing winning potential thanks to this duo.
