After Lavishing Heavy Praise on an Awful Bears Team Last Season, Is Chicago Bill Belichick’s Next Stop?

New England Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick, just needs 17 more wins to surpass the former Miami Dolphins HC Don Shula’s record. If he does that, he will enshrine himself in NFL history as the coach with the most number of victories. But with the state his current team is in, it looks like a pipe dream. The Patriots have lost 7 of their 9 games in the season so far, and there seems to be no silver lining.
There is another team that is also having a hard time winning. The Chicago Bears. They are also 2-7 and need a massive makeover if they are to save face. Is a change of scenery all that Belichick needs to become the best version of himself again?
The Bears are facing a coaching problem

Matt Eberflus’ defense is currently placed last on the list with just 10 sacks. The lack of discipline, either due to frustration or otherwise, is showing, as they are also the most penalized team in the league. The list doesn’t just end there. They also have a -9 turnover differential, which is again a league-worst. Their abysmal performance so far has earned them a place at the bottom of the NFC North division.

Bears’ GM Ryan Poles doesn’t seem too eager to fix the situation either. Poles gave Eberflus a glowing, over-the-top vote of confidence at his press conference last week. Even though shelling out cash for coaches doesn’t affect the salary cap, Poles has shown no keenness in even looking for a new HC.

Even though the Bears finished last in their division in the previous season, one coach seemed to have nothing but praise for them. “Coach Eberflus has really done a good job. I mean, in the second half, they’re the best defensive team in the second half of games in the league,” said Belichick. The Bears finished 3-14 last year. But does this affinity for them indicate something else?
Will Bill Belichick make the switch to the Bears?
Agreed, recruiting the “most successful coach of all time” seems like a bit of a stretch at this point in the season. However, if the Bears decide to show Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus the door, it might open the door for Belichick. And the best part? He can play both HC and GM, as he does in the Patriots currently. Two birds with one stone.
If Belichick makes the switch to the Bears, it might open up the opportunity to draft his franchise QB at the top of the first round in the NFL Draft next year. Additionally, he would also have a first-round pick that would enable him to handpick players to develop the Bears further for the next year. However, as of now, it’s a wait-and-watch situation as the Bears prepare to face the 1-7 Carolina Panthers tomorrow at 8:15 p.m. in Chicago.
