Things are getting more desperate for the Buffalo Bills. Entering Week 18 of the regular season, the 10-6 Bills will face the 11-5 Miami Dolphins. The Bills will have a higher chance of missing the playoffs if they lose the Sunday Night Football game. But if they triumph, they will have won the AFC East for four years running and will have the No. 2 seed going into the postseason.

Ahead of the game, the Bills Mafia received a scare when QB Josh Allen featured on the injury report with a right finger and neck injury. But in what came as a relief to fans, he participated fully in the game on Wednesday. After the practice session, he spoke to the media and highlighted his concerns for the Miami matchup.

The interaction started on a happy note, but then the reporters started asking hard-hitting questions. If you looked at the performance of the Bills this season, you’d notice a sharp downward trend after the halfway mark. The reporters thought of catching Allen off guard with this. What was Allen’s response to that? Rather than throwing his team under the bus, Allen acknowledged his role in the issue. “There’s been a couple of games where, you know, I haven’t thrown it my best.”

And he is not wrong. Allen’s pass completion percentage in the most recent game against the New England Patriots was just 50%. That is his second-worst record of the season. And as if that wasn’t enough, he also had his lowest QB rating for a season.

Now as they’re heading towards a crucial game that could make or break their season, what should Allen watch out for in the run-up to Sunday’s divisional game? And can the Bills Mafia still trust him to keep their team going?

Can Allen help the Bills score a victory on Sunday?

Allen has a track record of 3-1 against the Dolphins with 13 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and an average of 344 passing yards per game since Mike McDaniel took over as HC of the Dolphins. Even though Allen has had a lot of success against Miami in the past, the defense may present him with new challenges. Vic Fangio, the DC for the Dolphins, joined Miami during the offseason, so Allen’s only actual reference point is the October meeting between the two squads where the Bills clinched a blowout 48-20 victory.

Allen could tell the Dolphins had changed a few things since the two teams’ last meeting, according to The Buffalo News. The Dolphins’ defense has allowed fewer than 300 yards of total offense in 7 of its 11 games since giving up 414 yards to the Bills. Three of those games have come in the last four weeks. “I’ve played well against them in the past, but it doesn’t mean I’m gonna play well against them this week,” the quarterback stated, trying to avoid the trap of becoming overconfident.
